Q&A
-
We use the highest quality whitening gel that is only available to dental professionals. It is safe, FDA approved, pure 40% hydrogen peroxide gel that does not cause any harm to your enamel.
-
Whitening session is a single treatment and you will absolutely see the change in color by at least 2 shades. The results depend on your initial shade. More grey undertones of the starting shade, we find to be more challenging to lift and they may require addition sessions. Also you if you have never whitened your teeth before, you may require a second session.
-
At Nova Whitening we only use highest grade whitening gel that causes no harm or stripping to your enamel, so you can whiten as often as you want until you reach your desired or possible whitest shade. Our patients normally whiten their teeth every 4-6 months.
-
Zoom whitening results vary from person to person based on how many staining foods and beverages are being consumed after the whitening. With proper post care the results will last longer.
-
We offer BOOST that is a 60min touch up with the highest concentration of whitening gel that can be done within 4 months after your full whitening session. If it has been longer than 4 months, we recommend repeating ZOOM, a 60 min whitening treatment. Dr. Waibel also is a big advocate of an electric toothbrush that polishes away the stains. There are also products like whitening strips, whitening toothpastes and customs trays that are a great option for maintenance purposes. You can purchase them at our office.
-
It is impossible to predict the human factor and we found that the greatest majority of our patients have no sensitivity or very minor sensitivity. We recommend brushing your teeth with Sensodyne or any other toothpaste for sensitive teeth for 10 days prior to whitening session. If you are due for a dental cleaning, do not combine it with whitening on the same day as you may increase the chances for sensitivity. If you normally have sensitive teeth, we recommend taking 600mg of Ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin) one hour before whitening. We always isolate any areas of recession or exposed dentin with the liquid barrier prior to whitening. If there is any sensitivity, it may feel like random zingers and it should not last longer than 24 hours.
-
If you have porcelain crowns, veneers or composite bonding, they will not get whiter. Only your enamel will change color.
-
Final shade after whitening is highly individual and based on several factors like your initial shade, the amount and the quality of your enamel and even your genetics.
